The environment – seen through our glasses

We design, produce and sell glasses made of plastic. We do this in an ethically responsible way and with respect for the environment.

Have A Look’s glasses are designed in Denmark, and we have them manufactured in Taiwan in close collaboration with our producer – a family-owned company for two generations. We have had the pleasure of working with them for many years; we have visited and met them numerous times, and we regard them more as a trusted partner than as a supplier.

With FDA, CE, REACH, ISO 9001 and EN ISO 12312-1 certification, our producer meets international standards, and their code of conduct also complies with Have A Look’s values on human rights, working conditions, the environment and social responsibility.

All our glasses come with a case made from 100% rPET felt (felt made from recycled plastic bottles).

The frames of our glasses are made of polycarbonate, and the lenses are acrylic – pure plastics with a high oil content and thus a high reuse value, too. They contain no flame retardants, plasticisers or other toxic substances. In other words, the glasses and lenses consist of ordinary consumer plastic that is not harmful to health in any way and that poses no problem for the environment when disposed of by normal means (by incineration or reuse).

Both the frames and the lenses are injection-moulded. There is normally no waste plastic in injection moulding. To remove impure particles, pure plastic is run through the inlet system when production is started up. Our supplier sends the waste plastic generated in the cleaning process for recycling, where it is used to make new plastic products that do not require the same high degree of colour purity.

From the beginning, then, the finished glasses and felt cases you buy from us have been produced and handled with consideration and respect for the environment and your health! When their lifetime is over, we hope you will do your bit to ensure they do not end up in nature or in the sea, but are put in the plastic waste bin to be disposed of in an environmentally responsible way, through incineration and reuse as power for heating, electricity etc.

If you are unsure what to do with your cast-off glasses, you are welcome to send them to us. We will then ensure that they are disposed of and reused responsibly, with respect for the environment.

Despite our environmentally responsible handling, production, use and disposal of plastic, as a company we inevitably have a carbon footprint. We are aware of it, and we do our best to reduce our share of the world’s CO2 emissions. As far as possible, we transport our glasses from Taiwan to Denmark by ship; we make sure not to over-produce samples and catalogues; we reuse packaging when possible and use environmentally friendly solutions when new packaging is necessary. We use FSC-marked paper exclusively, sort our waste and generally keep the protection of the environment in mind in our day-to-day work.
